Competition Teams

MDC has 4 competitive teams Ascend, Surge, Torrent, & Velocity. This is a serious commitment. Teams are by AUDITION ONLY. Competition teams train 5 hours weekly with classes in Ballet, Technique, and the 3 competition routines.

Jazz

Jazz combos will be a fun class using top hits of pop music on the charts. We will learn routines that include sass, personality, along side technique of basic jazz which includes Kicks, Leg Extensions, Turns, and Jumps. The focus is on Jazz technique and exploring fun jazz routines.

Drill Team

DRILL TEAM are you on a drill team? Do you want to make ALL competition routines? Are you wanting to audition for a drill team? Did you audition and not make a drill team? This class is for all of the above! Train with the NEW head coach of the Northridge High school Cardinelles.

Mini/Pre School Dance /Tumble/ Mom & Me

This class is designed for ages 3-5 years. It is an introduction to movement class. Dancers will learn balance, rhythm, and coordination. The Pre School tumble will focus on skills and strength for cartwheels and handstands. MOM & ME is for our young dancers ages 2/3 years and their mom's. Mom's will stay during the class to enjoy learning and having fun with their toddler.

Circus Foundation

This is an aerial class that will include Aerial hoop, silks, and hammock training. If you enjoy flying, spinning, and being upside down, you will LOVE aerial training. Dancers must be 8 years or older to participate in the foundation classes.

Lyrical/Contemporary

Lyrical is a fluid style of music usually set to soft melodic songs. Contemporary explores dance with no set rules. It is an expressive style of movement. Combos usually have a story line that creates the style and emotion of the piece.

ADULT CLASSES AT MDC

We want to provide a wellness center for ALL ages in our community! We have added fun adult fitness and wellness classes for the moms and dads of MDC. BARRE- Do you want the long lean muscles of a dancer? This class is to train the muscles just like our ballerinas do. You do not have to have previous ballet training. YOGA- You are only as old as your spine and Yoga is the BEST way to keep your spine flexible and moving. This class Provides better flexibility, great mental/body connection, and better overall balance. We will have punch pass system for adults and drop ins are welcome.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop classes work on strength & musicality. Stalls, break dancing, popping, locking, & freestyle. Hip Hop music & culture inspire movements. Learn current styles and trends. A nonstop fun upbeat class! This class is open to Boys & Girls ages 6 years and up.

Tumbling

Tumbling is an acrobatic discipline. Our co-ed tumbling class works on coordination, balance, & strength. The Beginning level will focus on Acro, walkovers, and strength. The Intermediate is for dancers working on aerials and back handsprings. The Advanced class is for tucks, whips, front aerials, and harder combinations

Company

Company is by audition only and is the performing arts company for MDC.

Ballet

Ballet is a poised style of dance that incorporates the foundational techniques for many other dance forms. Ballet is the most glamorous form of Art. Advanced Ballet is an introduction class to Pointe, Dancers take class on pointe or in ballet shoes. You will dance in Pointe shoes when the instructor feels you are ready. POINTE is for dancers that have had at least 3 years of previous ballet training, and are at least 12 years old .

Recreation Dance

These classes were created to explore ALL styles of dance and incorporate the overall excitement of a team dance class environment. Styles include ballet, hip hop, jazz, tumble, and more. Recreation teams are Divas ages 6-8, Elate ages 9-11, Edge 12 years and up. Rec teams come Tuesday and Thursday each week.

Comp Solos

Competition soloists of MDC are divided into small groups to work weekly on the competition routines. Being a solo dancer is very competitive in Utah. We train extensively with our soloists to maintain the level necessary to be competitive in our industry. This class is for dancers that are on the competition teams and have been invited by the staff to compete a solo routine.

Class Level Placement

Dance Levels

Mini Level – Pre school dancers age 3-5 years.

Beginning Level – Recreation classes. For dancers that want to enjoy movement and learn the basics of dance. No previous training required.

Intermediate Level –  For dancers who are more dedicated and serious about the art of dance. Have had prior dance experience.

Advanced Level–  For students wanting to excel in the world of dance/cheer (try out for drill or cheer teams in jr., sr., college, & professional level.) This is a commitment to the art.  Must have at least 2 years of dance training.

Tumbling Levels-ALL CO-ED

Beginning– Working on Basic foundation of tumbling. Cartwheels, Back walkovers, Front Walkovers, Round off’s

Intermediate– Working on Ariels, Back & Front handsprings. CO/ED boys and girls ages 8 and up.

Advanced- Working on Tucks, Whips, Front Aerials. CO/ED Ages 10 years and up.
